Daily Dive – Sung Kong

After travel, quarantine, and general scheduling issues, I got my first dive of the summer season on Wednesday. I guess I was always expecting it to be a little different to diving in Puerto Galera =)

In what turned out to be a nice surprise (and a long day), we set sail for Sung Kong, an island south of Hong Kong island. It’s not somewhere we typically go, and it was my first time there. In a slight change to the normal schedule, we planned to do back to back dives, with lunch afterwards.

In a rather pleasant change, I had a Divemaster candidate with me, meaning I could play the role of observer. He, very capably, led the dive, with some of our group enjoying their first experience of Hong Kong diving.

Sung Kong is a relatively deep site by Hong Kong standards, with lots of soft corals between 12m and 16m. Unfortunately, we weren’t blessed with great visibility on the day, but we managed to have fun nonetheless.

I’m spending more and more time in the pool and the shop at the moment, so getting out into the open water is great. Water temps are around 24C at the moment, so still firmly in the 5mm range for me. The weather has been terrible these last few weeks, but appears to have taken a turn for the better in recent days. Let’s see if that has any corresponding change to the water temps over the coming days…
